The Brunswick Gold Crown I Story

The 1963 Brunswick Gold Crown I

Everyone who knows me well knows I like pool. Way back when (mid-1990s), I bought a Gold Crown III from a guy I used to work with, Henry Pilat. The table had come from pool room in the late 1970s.

When I started my retail shop on Elmwood, I decided to sell the table to Bob Remington. He was opening a pool room in Clarence, NY (Bogies Billiards). He eventually refurbished the table and I think it is still currently Table #9 (I could be wrong). Anyways Bogies has a set of Gold Crowns alongside their Diamonds.

Fast forward to 2008 when Erin and I were moving in to our new house. We had the place built with a loft area. The only hitch was getting a table the right size for it. I didn't have room for a full size table, so I knew I would buy an 8-footer.

I had been looking on Ebay and locally for about a year, off and on. Optimally I wanted an Oversized 8 Goldcrown or a new Diamond.

One day I noticed a listing on Craigslist titled '50s Brunswick Pool Table'. I took a look at the photos and noticed it was a Gold Crown I. The only problem was it looked old. Really old and beat up. Anyone familiar with Gold Crowns will understand what I mean. The 60s was an era of interesting color choices to say the least. The photo above was one color scheme. Anyways, I knew it wouldn't fly with the Mrs. and I knew I would have to re-furb it. I also knew that I probably might not find one again.

Anyways, it ended up being an original Gold Crown I, 8' Pro. I had a pool table guy clean it up and paint it. New rails, tighten the pockets, etc. Came out great.

I have some photos of the table posted in the Galleries.
